Domestic universities will launch undergraduate education in the field of brain science for the first time. Recently, Zhejiang University established the School of Brain Science and Brain Medicine, which plans to set up two directions: biomedical (neuroscience) and clinical medicine (neuropsychiatry) to fill the gap in undergraduate neuroscience.
"At present, graduate students in brain science are mainly undergraduates who majored in biology and biotechnology. They have received almost no education in neuroscience related knowledge at the undergraduate stage, which is not conducive to their scientific research." Talent gap brings training needs
Brain science is one of the most challenging frontiers. "The scale and demand of brain science research has greatly exceeded many first-level disciplines. But among the more than 400 undergraduate majors offered by ordinary universities in China, there is no major in neuroscience." Duan Shumin said.
He explained that what we usually call "brain science" overlaps with the more specialized expression "neuroscience", but the latter has a wider scope of research.

The direction of neuropsychiatry is competence-oriented, training innovative high-quality neuromedical talents with good humanities, scientific literacy and professional ethics, solid professional knowledge, excellent clinical ability and international competitiveness, mainly to cultivate high-level neurology , Neurosurgeons and psychiatrists.
Setting up two directions of brain science and brain medicine in one college also provides opportunities for communication and cross-cultivation of students from different directions. Zhejiang University also launched the "Double Brain Project" in 2018 to promote the integration of brain science and artificial intelligence research. In the training of two undergraduate courses, the college will also set up courses related to artificial intelligence.
